Autonomous Vehicles, Marketing Technology, Fuel Research, Cyber Security, Automated Parking, Home Connectivity, Smart Cities, Utility research, Water Desalination, BioMedical Devices, incubation, acceleration and commercialization were among the innovation topics the 17 members of the delegation explored while in Israel. At times 6 groups were off exploring different customized agendas throughout Israel with the participants coming together for dinner to share what they learned with each other.
The welcome dinner featured native Atlantan Ilan Regenbaum who works in the Israeli Air Force Innovation Department and Tal Cohen, Vice Chair of Conexx and Founding Partner of Drive TLV. Ilan and Tal shared the ingredients of the special innovation sauce that makes Israel the “Start Up Nation”. At another group dinner, Yossi Abramowitz, CEO, Energiya Global addressed the group in Ein Kerem about his solar energy projects in Israel and in Africa.
The entire delegation travelled south to Beer Sheva to explore the innovation found at Ben Gurion University and CyberSpark, the Israeli Cyber Innovation Arena in Beer-Sheva. It is a joint venture of the Israeli National Cyber Bureau in the Prime Minister’s Office, Beer Sheva Municipality, Ben Gurion University of the Negev and leading companies in the cybersecurity industry the Israeli Cyber Innovation Arena in Beer-Sheva. A group representing the Southern Company, the nation’s second largest utility, joined the expedition to explore opportunities with the Israel Innovation Authority, BIRD Foundation, Israel Electric Company, and many others. Interesting visits to Enel and Innogy, European utility incubators only strengthened the notion that Israeli innovation is of great benefit to those who diligently engage.
Tiffany Wilson, CEO, Global Center for Medical Innovation & T3 Labs, Nicole Morris, Director of TI:GER, Professor of Practice, Emory Law School, Jorge Fernandez, VP of Global Commerce, Metro Atlanta Chamber and Conexx leaders Ben Fink, Joel Neuman and Greg Kirsch met with healthcare incubators, companies and the City of Jerusalem to explore BioMedical projects.
Phil Rubin, CEO and Founder, rDialogue visited the Nielson Incubator to explore innovative marketing technology while Dexter Caffey, CEO, The Caffey Investment Group (streaming on Facebook Live from every nook in Israel) and Joe Modica, President, Integritas Investment Management, explored the innovation ecosystem for investment opportunities.
Additional members f the delegation included Morris Ellison, Attorney, Wombile Carlyle Sandridge & Rice from Charleston, South Carolina joined the delegation Greg Kirsch, Partner, Smith Gambrell & Russell and Michael Cohn, President, Berkley Development participated in some of the delegation activities.
One of the highlights of the delegation was a visit to Gal Water (portable desalination) while they participated in the IDF military exercises with Israel’s Level 3 field hospital (the only one in the world) which has travelled to Haiti and Nepal to provide humanitarian aid. The group was given a tour of the hospital including an address by the commander, a physician from Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
Business-to-Business meetings were held throughout the 5 days in Israel and covered industry sectors such as parking solutions, medical devices, cyber, marketing technology, the connected home, battery development, autonomous driving, devices for the visually impaired and blind, smart cities and fleet technology.
The expedition marked the onboarding of the new Conexx Israel representative Michael Piha. Michael had an opportunity to meet Conexx leadership and begin to develop important Israel relationships to enhance the work of Conexx in Israel.
