How OoVoo Became Teenagers’ Favorite Way To Video Chat

Izzie De Luca owns a BlackBerry, iPad and MacBook, is active on Facebook and has AIM and iChat accounts. But when the 14-year-old New Yorker wants to connect with her friends, she often turns to ooVoo. The eighth grader says she spends up to two hours a day talking on the video chat service, logging on as soon as she has finished her homework, or even before.
Oovoo is explosively popular on places like Facebook and Twitter, where teens congregate. Oovoo’s Facebook page has 1.7 million “likes”, placing it in the top 20 technology brands on the social networking site. The company estimates that its name is broadcast on Twitter once every two seconds, mostly by teens tweeting incessantly about their ooVoo activity.
