Booky Oren – President and CEO of Miya, an Arison Group company, was a guest of AICC CleanTech Committee today. In his presentation, he made a strong point about the nexus of Water and Energy, and discussed his views on the current financial crisis and the prospects for advances in cleantech and sustainability in the next few years.

Miya’s mission is to help the cities of the world benefit from the huge opportunity presented by water loss reduction and effective management of urban water. Miya’s offering presents a comprehensive water loss solution for municipalities, from audit of the city’s water system to full project execution and maintenance. Miya is partnering with water utilities as a service provider, in order to ensure a long term efficiency of their network. Miya is investing in R&D for next-generation products and is committed to pioneering innovative solutions for water loss reduction.
Mr. Oren has over 24 years of experience in various managerial roles in a large variety of companies, ranging from start-ups to multi-national organizations, across a range of industries. In the water arena, Mr. Oren served as the Corporate Vice President for Business Development at Netafim, the largest micro-irrigation company in the world. There he was exposed to the growing challenges of the global water shortage and identified the business opportunity for Israel in the global water industry.
In 2003, Mr. Oren was nominated as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mekorot, Israel’s National Water Company. Mr. Oren introduced a major organizational change in the company to enhance its business practices. He initiated the “Watech” program that motivated Mekorot to improve its technological capabilities by using its existing facilities for the good of hundreds of entrepreneurs. Mr. Oren established close relationships with some of the leading players in the water arena: multi-national companies, water utilities, water technology specialists, academic professionals and financial industry players.
Mr. Oren has made a major contribution in shaping Israel’s leadership in water technologies. He serves as the Chairman of WATEC Israel – a leading event in the Global water technology industry. In 2007 WATEC Israel hosted over 100 foreign delegations including as tens of thousands of visitors. The next WATEC event is scheduled in November 2009. Mr. Oren holds both a master’s degree in Business Administration (specializing in Marketing) and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from Tel Aviv University.
