Even though I have been in Atlanta for 21 years and heavily involved in both the healthcare community and the business communities, I was not aware of Conexx until about a year ago when Ralph Jordan, Chair of the Conexx Healthcare Connector, introduced me to the organization.
He explained how Conexx is heavily involved in the technology space and is working with a lot of Israeli-based healthcare technology companies. I was immediately drawn to Conexx’s emphasis on business development in the technology space. Since my current work is in healthcare IT, it was natural to get involved.
I first met Guy and Barry about a year ago, and they welcomed me to the healthcare committee. They were planning an international teleforum to help Israeli-based technology companies better understand the dynamics of operating in the US healthcare market. Since that is exactly my professional emphasis, it was a perfect fit.
I’ve been working in the hospital field for more than 30 years. My family moved to Atlanta in 1995 when I became Executive Vice President at Georgia Hospital Association, a position I held for over 19 years. About a year ago, I founded a new company called Pearson Health Tech Insights, LLC. I’ve always been drawn to new and better ways to do things, and technology brings so many great opportunities to improve quality of care and streamline administrative processes.
I’m giving a keynote address for an Institute for Health Technology Transformation conference and my topic is “The Four Fronts of the Healthcare Technology Revolution”, which are: patient-touching technologies, data-driven initiatives, communications, and business functions. There are hundreds of new companies entering the marketplace in one of these areas every month. The possibilities for disruptive transformation are incredible. Pearson Health Tech Insights helps companies at all stages of development, from start-ups to established organizations, sharpen their understanding and approaches to working in healthcare.
Additionally, I am developing a new product line (in conjunction with a company called Innovations Domain) helping hospitals address the challenges surrounding reducing unanticipated hospital re-admissions. And finally, Pearson Health Tech Insights helps investors with their due diligence process as they evaluate which companies they should fund. An important consideration is, of course, whether or not the target market will actually buy the products a technology company offers; our tagline is, “If you build it, they might not come.”
