When I first joined Conexx there were only 2-3 of us from Charleston. I had met Tom Glaser on one of his visits up here and this provided a personal link to the leadership at Conexx. I ended up joining in 2005 because I worked in the medical device field. I wanted to support Israel and I knew a lot of medical innovations were coming out of Israel, so I joined and immediately got involved with the Healthcare committee. Being a committee member was exciting for me because I worked on “assessment” teams for new medical technology companies coming from Israel. Not long after, Tom Glaser asked me to serve on the board.
I’ve been involved with a lot of different activities at Conexx. I have enjoyed my time as a Board of Director, acting as a resource and being proactive by suggesting ways in which to promote Conexx. I work to help attract new members and make businesses and organizations in SC more aware of Conexx and the incredible connections between South Carolina and Israel. In addition, I’ve worked with the South Carolina-Israel Collaboration, attended many Eagle Star Awards Gala events and been on various committees to help shape Conexx’s mission statement and role.
I am the Managing Partner at the Soundings Group consulting firm. We specialize in three global core areas: new business identification, market entry strategies and marketing guidance. My experience includes working in packaged goods and medical device marketing as well as new product development. I’ve worked in consulting and started a medical device and pharmaceutical consulting division for a Chicago based firm, working with companies such as Eli Lilly, GE Medical, Smith & Nephew, and Hollister, among others. I was Director of Business Ventures at The NutraSweet Company in Chicago, worked as a Director of Business Development for a division of a major medical device company and as an Assistant Market Research Director at Hunt-Wesson Foods in Southern California.
I also am an adjunct faculty member, teaching International Business and graduate marketing classes, on and off at The Citadel and Webster University’s satellite campus in Charleston. I also taught an MBA marketing course in Chengdu, China in early 2011. I started publishing a monthly international business blog, posted on my website (www.thesopundingsgroup.com) since returning to the U.S. after living in China. I worked extensively with new business entries in International markets, and I continue to be very interested in business activities in Asia.
Being involved with Conexx keeps me engaged and aware of advances, opportunities and contact in Israel. Meeting Israeli companies, representatives from Israeli accelerators and hearing updates on Israeli companies is very exciting. I’ve also made some new connections in South Carolina through Conexx, including the SC government, SCRA and other SC Conexx member companies. I’ve also made new friends with other board members whom I’ve called on for assistance or tried to help when I can benefit them.
