Ira G. Pearl is vice president of AGL Resources’ Office of Technology and Environmental Sustainability in Atlanta, Georgia. He is responsible for leading business development and commercialization in the “Clean Tech” space, focusing on new and improved natural gas applications and technologies including distributed generation, micro turbines, fuel cells, combined heat and power, heat-driven cooling applications (CCHP), and high-efficiency appliances. He also is responsible for leading the company’s climate change and greenhouse gas strategy natural gas vehicle strategy, and environmental sustainability initiatives, as well as for providing oversight of all corporate environmental programs.
In 2010 he took on the additional role of President of Renewco, AGL’s renewable energy development company where he is responsible for leading business development, commercialization, and operations of the company’s renewable energy portfolio.
From 2005 through 2008, he served as vice president, Engineering Services and Supply Chain, where he led the company’s Engineering, Construction, Fleet, Crisis Management, Supply Chain Management, and Environmental, Health & Safety departments
Mr. Pearl serves on the boards of the Georgia Conservancy, the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, and the Southface Energy Institute; and is an active member of the Environmental Policy and Sustainability Committee of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and Sustainable Atlanta.
He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He then completed his post-graduate education in nuclear engineering and served as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.
