I’ve been involved with Conexx for six years since relocating to Atlanta in 2010. I originally got involved on the suggestion of a colleague from work. I reached out to Tom Glaser, the President at the time. I was new to Atlanta so it was a great way to get involved in the local Jewish community and the local business community. As time went by I went to a few events to get involved and started to see the same people at the events and, as I got to know them, we started to have some discussions on how to re-establish a relationship with my firm. I agreed to help because I saw opportunity for both organizations and that continues to this day.
I was drawn to Conexx for many reasons. I was new to Atlanta and was working on developing my firm’s international business so Conexx was a great way to look for business opportunities, support Israel, and give back to the local Jewish community.
My professional life was a 30 year career at UPS, primarily in the business development group. I started as a UPS driver in New York City and, over the course of seven years, worked my way to Sales Manager. In 1992 I was promoted to Sales Director and moved to Orlando, Florida. Two years later I came to Atlanta to work in our corporate office in a development assignment and in 1996 I became the Vice President of Sales for our Southwest region based in Dallas Texas. I also served in the same capacity for our North Central region in Chicago for nine years. I came back to Atlanta in 2010 to work on developing UPS’ international business followed by an assignment in the Enterprise Account group. Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to be able to retire and try some new things I had not had the chance to do previously. I have been training for my first triathlon, which was on January 8, 2017, as well as traveling and working on my bucket list items.
I have also been volunteering for Conexx. Most recently I was appointed as the Chair for the 2017 Conexx Gala, formerly known as the Eagle Star Gala. The Gala committee is hard at work planning for the 2017 event, which will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at the Twelve Hotel at Atlantic Station from 6-9 p.m. Register now. Please put May 3, 2017 on your calendar and watch our website and your email for the announcements. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
Getting involved with Conexx has given me an opportunity to meet the amazing staff members who do a great job with limited resources. I’ve learned a great deal about the local Jewish community, the local business community and, most of all, I’ve learned the incredible story of the Start-Up nation and how it translates to entering the US market for Israeli start-ups.
